Let’s learn the letter S through this super special preschool art- S is for Snake Art and Craft Activity!
According to studies, humans are born with only two innate fears: the fear of falling and the fear of loud sound.
And yet now there are so many things that man are afraid of. I guess it’s something that we pick up along the way.
As a preschool teacher, there were a couple of fears that I needed to face and overcome so my students won’t learn to fear it, too (copy my fear) or overcome their own fears.
One example was when we went on a field trip to the zoo. During our visit to the reptile one, the zookeeper asked who wants their photo taken with the snake. Nobody raised their hands. I looked around and saw my students with fear in their eyes.
Reluctantly (and shaking to my bones), I volunteered. I wanted it to be a fun trip. I wanted my students to be brave and adventurous. And so I modelled those traits for them by taking a picture with the snake.
Guess what? After I had my turn, ALL my students raised their hands to have their turn.
My daring paid off immediately. I’m just so happy that my students got to experience handling a snake (with professional guidance, of course.)
After the trip, my preschoolers were so proud of themselves for being so brave. They were talking nonstop about it on the bus.
In fact, they were still talking about it a week after our field trip. So I came up with an easy snake-themed craft for them.
This letter art targets the following learning objectives:
- Master the letter S through a visual cue (image of a snake) and an auditory cue (beginning sound of the word snake)
